Frequently asked questions
What is eFoiling?
Efoil stands for "electric hydrofoil" and refers to an electrically powered surfboard that can fly above the water's surface using a wing (hydrofoil). It is an exciting and innovative water sports activity that combines the sensation of surfing with flying above the water.
What does an eFoil lesson look like?
The eFoil lesson consists of four parts: reception and changing, instruction on shore, lesson on the water, and closing. During the instruction on shore, you will be taught how to safely ride on the water, how the equipment works, and what the steps are to learn how to eFoil. The real learning happens on the water itself, as practice makes perfect. Here, an instructor will pay close attention and provide useful tips and advice.
Is experience required to learn eFoiling?
No, experience is not required. Our eFoil school offers lessons for beginners to advanced riders. Our experienced instructors will guide you and teach you the basics of eFoiling, regardless of your experience level. Everyone will be riding after the first hour!
What are the requirements to participate in eFoil lessons?
To participate in our eFoil lessons, you must be at least 16 years old and have reasonable swimming skills. For those under 16, there is a possibility to participate in the lesson in consultation with the respective parent/guardian. In addition, good physical condition is recommended, but you don't have to be an athlete to learn efoiling.
How long does it take to learn to eFoil?
The duration of the learning process can vary depending on your individual learning ability and experience with other water sports. In general, most people can stand within an hour and master the basic skills of eFoiling. More advanced techniques may take longer.
Are eFoil lessons safe?
Safety is our top priority. Our instructors are well-trained and ensure a safe learning environment. We provide you with safety equipment, including a wetsuit, impact vest, and a helmet. Additionally, we provide comprehensive instructions on safety procedures and the use of the eFoil equipment.
How long does an eFoil lesson last?
A standard eFoil lesson lasts 45 minutes to an hour. This includes the explanation, and riding your eFoil to and from the lake. Therefore, we ask our eFoilers to be on time (fifteen minutes before the lesson starts) so that you can fully enjoy your lesson. The time for group lessons will be arranged in consultation.
Is eFoiling weather-dependent?
Unlike other water sports, eFoiling is less dependent on the weather. The beauty of eFoiling is that no wind or waves are needed, so if the weather is a bit unfavourable, the lesson can still go ahead. Of course, safety comes first, so if the weather conditions are not suitable for eFoil lessons, we will reschedule the lessons free of charge.
What happens if I cancel a lesson?
The customer can cancel or change a reservation up to 24 hours before the scheduled time/date by contacting Flying Fish School by email (in writing) or app. Outside of the 24 hours, the activity will be converted into credit that can be redeemed at another time. These credits are transferable. For cancellations within 24 hours, you forfeit the lesson fee. No refunds will be given if fewer participants attend the activity than previously agreed upon.
Do I need to bring my own eFoil equipment or other gear?
No, you don't need to bring your own eFoil equipment or other gear. Our efoil school provides all the necessary equipment, including eFoils, wings, batteries, and remote controllers. We also provide you with the right gear, consisting of a wetsuit (rental cost: 9.50 euros) to keep you warm, and a helmet and impact vest for safety (free of charge). All you need to bring is swimwear, a towel, and a positive attitude! Of course, you are welcome to bring your own equipment if you have it.
Can I book eFoil lessons for a group?
Yes, we offer eFoil group lessons and clinics. It's a great activity for groups of friends, company outings, or other group occasions. Groups can be as large as 70 people. For larger groups, please contact us to discuss the possibilities.
Can I buy my own eFoil after completing the lessons?
Absolutely! After completing the lessons, you can choose to purchase your own efoil equipment. Our instructors can advise you on which equipment is most suitable for your level and needs.
At which locations can I eFoil?
Flying Fish has established schools in Amsterdam, Loosdrecht, Tilburg, Heeg, Monnickendam and Hoorn. The addresses of these locations can be found on the respective school pages. Furthermore, upon consultation, there is also the possibility for us to provide lessons on-site. Please contact us to discuss the possibilities.
Do you have other facilities available besides the eFoil lessons?
In addition to efoil lessons, we also offer the option to rent efoils and other equipment for independent sessions after completing a course. We also rent out SUPs. We are also in close contact with restaurant Het Bosch at our location on the Nieuwe Meer. This offers the possibility of a boat trip, fun drinks, lunches, BBQs and dinners in combination with a great active experience on the water.
How many people can participate in an eFoil lesson?
At our eFoil school, safety and fun are paramount. To guarantee safety and ensure everyone gets equal time on the water, we have a maximum of 5 people for regular lessons. More than 5 people can certainly book a lesson, but this falls under a group lesson. Please see our website for more information.
Is it possible to come with a company, group of friends, or other large group?
Yes, we do! We offer eFoil group lessons and clinics. It's a great activity for groups of friends, company outings, or other group occasions. We often combine this with other fun activities such as stand-up paddleboarding, 'Expedition Robinson' style games, and drinks. You can request a quote for a group outing via our website.
Am I insured through Flying Fish?
When booking, we will ask you to sign a waiver. This is important to make you aware of the potential dangers of eFoiling and that you agree to participate in the lesson. In addition to this personal responsibility, as a school, we are well insured against damage to third parties and for injury. In the event of damage caused by reckless behaviour and/or ignoring instructions, the costs will be charged.
What about the accessibility of the eFoil schools?
De Nieuwe Meer is easily accessible by public transport and by car. You can pay for parking on the Punterspad. After that, you can continue on foot along the path, and you'll find our school behind Restaurant Het Bosch.
